Show mercy in the Year of Mercy!
The key message from the Year of Mercy workshop held at the Proclaim ’15 Nottingham event Saturday 17th October was – to ‘show mercy in the Year of Mercy’.
The workshop was taken by Julia Palmer from Adult Formation, Fr Martin Hardy, Episcopal Vicar for Education and Patricia Stoat, Chair of the Justice and Peace Commission.
After reflecting on the background to the year of mercy delegates explored the parable of the Good Samaritan and then looked at how they could be merciful in their own lives. Fr martin explored some of the links with other faiths and the corporal and spiritual works of mercy. Patricia Stoat then gave some ideas of what parishes could do for the corporal works of mercy: under the heading of ‘Feed the hungry’ these incuded:
- Collecting for your local foodbank
- Make sure you buy fair trade
- Donate to charities that provide food overseas
- Only buy food that you will eat, don’t waste
- Say grace before meals
